While traveling on the mainland I started to see problems having problems on my laptop computer with Microsoft Word 2007TM. At first I had trouble opening attachments on e-mail and then It began to freeze up.
The final phase was that I could open a document, but could not edit it in any way. After scanning my computer for virus and running all the diagnostics, I still did not have any answers. So I uninstalled MS OfficeTM and reinstalled it. The problem was still there.
I then called my computer Guru, Gary Cheeseman (Celeste WooHoo Sally's husband). A few minute later Gary called back and said he was e-mailing me a link to the fix. If any of you run into this problem with WordTM it is a registry problem created by the program and here is the fix: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;940791
SYMPTOMS
You install an automatic update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 on a Windows Vista-based computer. Additionally, the computer must be restarted after the automatic update is installed. However, if Word 2007 is running when you restart the computer, you may experience the following symptoms:

RANDY!! Nice to see you. It was a real pleasure meeting you in Orlando, and I am assuming you are back in Hawaii, safe and sound. Microsoft Word 2007 has been a PITA - - for sure. My plans are to get a MAC next time around, which I'm afraid will be soon. Love my Sony VAIO but it's over 3 years old and you know what that means... soon to blow up.
Many thanks for this info. P.S. My cousin has a Lanikai house that has been pulled off the market. Call me some time.
Randy I see that you had a great time at NAR; it must have been fun meeting up with the AR members.
Thanks for the heads up on this Microsoft problem.
Hey Randy,
Welcome back....hope your trip was smooth and it was a pleasure to meet you finally and spend time with you and Russ getting lost:)
Seriously...I have an older version of Word and it does get jammed on occasion but it seems to do the job for me. I can do the updates because of the "special" version I run.
Hi Randy, thanks so much, as I do run Word on a vista computer. Can't say I'm thrilled about either, should have got a mac. I have bookmarked this just in case. Thanks ! Nice to meet you at NAR.
Susie - I got back Thursday night. My Sony Vaio blew up right before the trip. I put a new hard drive in the day before I left. I bought a new Toshiba that I took with me. Word froze up at the end of the trip on it.
Jennifer - It was a fun trip.
Neal - I just updated to the newest of everything a couple days before leaving for Orlando. I feel that we are always the guinee pig for their software.
Missy - I just posted on my blog the AR gathering.
Hi Randy, Monika has not had problems with Word on Vista but I have had problems with Outlook. Maybe I should get a hold of Sally's husband for help.

There is a tool for work with word files,as example when files was corrupted-
Sorry my link is incorrect-
Alex - Thank you for the tip. I had trouble opening your link. I found this to work better. http://www.recoverytoolbox.com I have not actuall used this, so I have no opinion on who well it works.
In my early business career starting in the late 1970s with the Apple Lisa and the IBM PC, I was an early adopter of new computer technology. Now I'm pretty much a follower. I'm just upgraded a few weeks ago from Office 2000 to Office 2003 - LOL.
Russel - I was much happier with Office 2003 than with 2007. I found Word was much more productive.
