Hawaii Randy's Real Estate Opinions: Getting Lean and Mean for 2007

Getting Lean and Mean for 2007

One of the problems I ran into after entering back into the real estate business was that I began to balloon up.

As real estate agents we do not do much in the way of physical activity.  I climb the occasional set of stairs to a 3rd floor condo.  I may even walk across a parking lot or two, but that is about it.

Our sales meetings usually have refreshments, all of our training classes supply food.  Not veggie platters either if you get my drift.  The worst of all is the non stop flow of treats to out office.  The loan officers, the home inspectors, the escrow folks, and various agents and brokers keep the goody shelf full and even over flowing with sugar and junk.

My first two years in our office I gained 60 pounds!  Last summer it hit me.  This job is killing me.  I work all kinds of weird hours, live on drive thru meals and don't get proper sleep.  I am heart attack waiting to happen.

I made up my mind that enough is enough.  I made an appointment to see the doctor to get me started the right way.  After a few visits and several tests I found I was diabetic and had sleep apnea so bad that I needed oxygen.  That was the final straw.  I was now completely dedicated to losing this weight so I could be around for my family.

I cut out sugar, reduced my carbs by a large amount and focused on selecting better choices for my meals.  Subway became my new fast food.

Oh yes, and I stopped visiting the goody shelf.SlimWide

As of this week I have lost 100lbs. and have a goal of 50 more by summer.  My diabetes is in complete remission.  I flushed all medicine last week and plan to never need them again.  My sleep apnea is completely gone and my wife happily reports that I no longer snore.  (Tales have been written about my snoring, going back 30 years).

My goal for 2007 is to start playing golf and basketball again.  I am also going to start working out with my high school son, who plays football.  One of my goals is to get back to the point where I can not only keep up with him, but push him a little.

My newly discovered energy will surely help me with my business.  I may have to change my slogan from "Not Just Another Pretty Face" to "Another Pretty Face," Well maybe not.

Randy ~ It's a pretty face indeed!  More importantly along with the pretty face is a man who achieves goals.  Good for you, what an inspiration you are AND yet another testimonial to Subway..

K.K. - I like subway, so it was an easy switch from drive thru.

Maureen & Dmitry - Thank you, I wish I would have done it several years ago.

Good for you!  We constantly harp on the 'food gifts' to be fruit instead of bagels or biscuits or sweets-and some vendors are actually listening.  I'll bet your wife is thrilled to know she'll have you around for a while longer than on your former track!

Randy, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  It takes a firm commitment to get fit.  One of the hardest commitments people can make and stick to.  I know how hard you have worked.  The good sleep alone is worth it though.  My husband snored like a freight train.

Four years ago my husband and I decided to get healthy together.  I lost 60 lbs and he lost 30.  We ran several half marathons and have really enjoyed the new health.  And energy.  Everything is better after you lose 60 lbs!!!  Lately I have felt it start to creep back on so we turned over a new leaf again. Of course, this time it is only in search of fifteen or twenty pounds.  I look forward to updated pictures when you are all done!!

Be proud of yourself with this!!!  Congratulations again!

Randy, great job on getting rid of the weight, but just think, if you get rid of another 5o lbs, you could have created another Realtor.  You could have called him Randy #2.....LOL

Randy I really hope that you met your goal, but more importantly that you be around to enjoy your future grand kids.

Leigh - I think my wife is mostly happy about the snoring disappearing.  She is also happy to know that I will probably be around a lot longer.

Jennifer - I wish it was that easy to lose weight also.  It was easy to put the weight on.

Virginia - Congratulations on running the marathons.  That was a goal of mine when I was younger that I never did.

George - I will be glad to have lost the other Realtor, he was getting heavy to carry.

Randy...

I do not want to mimic others in a comment so how about if I take the sarcastic trip to Hawaii. SVW.

I say you made all of this up and stretched your picture. LOL.

Now remember you were the one who encouraged my smart a*s remarks. No offense. I am just messing with you. SVW.

Hey. I got the pineapple on this comment. :)

TLW "The Lovely Wife"...I Need To Stretch Broker Bryant's Picture. LOL. ROAR or is that SNORE. :)

Okay... today while driving from different parts of Seattle I called to order "to go" my favorite hamburger in the world....a Bacon Deluxe from RED MILL in interbay for lunch....and tonight while returning from a meeting with a potential seller....I stopped by at Jack-in-the-box for Jumbo Jack combo (to go) with curley fries!  YIKES!        ...Real nutrition for a Realtor!

Very inspiring story....congratulations on your weightloss and good health!   I am very impressed.

PS, I did order a DIET coke!

Posted by Deborah Burns ~ Seattle Real Estate Agent (Realty Executives -BRIO) over 11 years ago
Deborah - I ate an occassional Jumbo Jack with no mayo and a diet coke and still lost a lot of weight.  I have since eliminated soda and all caffein, I think that helped with my sleeping.

I know where you are coming from...Today I worked from 8am to 7am... I had a cookie for breakfast at the office meeting.   The office handed out free sandwiches from Quizno's (coupon) at that very same meeting.  I ate the sandwich for lunch.  In between that time I ate countless M&M's...and received little candy bars in my property profile envelopes from my favorite title company.   It's an uphill battle. I've gained about 15 pounds this past year... lucky for me I had a little room to spare... Good Luck!!

I can vouch for Randy!  He truly is doing everything that he says.  I hadnt seen him for a month while I was on vacation and when I came back I could not believe the change he had made.  You hit a very important point in this blog, "so I could be around for my family".  I mean....what else is there?  My family is the reason I get up every morning.  With your determination I am sure you will be a lean, mean fighting machine in no time.

David and Tonya - Thank you for the kind words.  In this tough market I need to be lean and mean to stay competitve also.
