Hawaii Randy's Real Estate Opinions: Teaching My First CE Class

Teaching My First CE Class

Last Monday evening I taught me first CE class for Hawaii real estate agents.

The Class was the new Core B mandatory class, which covers new law changes and a refresher on Fair Housing.  We had a small group, but it was a great opportunity to test out my material.  This Saturday, July 17, 2010 I will be teaching that class in the morning followed by a new three hour Elective Class: "Getting Purchase Contracts Accepted and to Closing."

 Upcoming July Class Schedule:

Fri. July 23, 2010   10:00am to 12:00pm  -  Core B: Real Estate Law and Don't Discriminate (Kailua Class)  -  Guild Mortgage (Upstairs from California Pizza Kitchen)  -  609 Kailua Road, Suite 200  Kailua, HI  96734

Fri. July 23, 2010   10:00am to 12:00pm  -  New Elective: Getting Purchase Contracts Accepted and to Closing  (Kailua Class)   Guild Mortgage (Upstairs from California Pizza Kitchen)  -  609 Kailua Road, Suite 200  Kailua, HI  96734

New 2010 Core B:    "Real Estate Law and Don't Discriminate"

New Elective "Getting Purchase Contracts Accepted and to Closing"

  • This new course teaches techniques for preparing, presenting and negotiating purchase contracts that get accepted and all the way to closing.  Part 1 addresses the process from the eyes of a buyer's agent.  In part 2 we change hats and look at the process from the eyes of a listing agent.  (3 Credit Hours)

Randy, Good luck with your class.  It takes a lot of time to prepare the material and presentation so that the students can learn and internalize what you present.  I taught a commercial property management class at Scottsdale (AZ) Community College and was surprised at how much prep time it took to develop the curriculum and lecture materials.  It was rewarding when the students thanked me at semester's end and said it was the best class they'd taken.

Rick - It took me even longer to get it approved by the state.

Congrats on getting through your first class, teacher.  I hope it's something you like doing and can keep it up.  At least there's a pay check waiting for you when it's over!

Georgina - With the economy playing games you never know what will be coming down the road.  I would gladly do them on Maui if there was enough interest.

Randy - good for you. I bet those classes are chock-full of important information. I would think this would be something you would be quite good at. Since I do some teaching myself, I know what a lot of work it can be in terms of preparation.

Hey Randy,

Good luck on those classes. Your title is interesting, "Getting purchase contracts accepted to closing."

Jeff - I think I learn as much as the students sometimes.  Teaching is a great way to build my knowledge.

Lynda - My first class for that will be Saturday.  I am looking forward to it.  I think it will be popular.

Randy, My goal when teaching a class at the community college was to give students highly practical advice and training that they could easily implement.  Sometimes I felt as if I was one class ahead of my students during preparation.  I learned as much as the students.  Let us know how the Saturday class went!

Rick - My goal is the same.  I am limitred by what the state will allow me to teach.
